I wish to confirm that following a number of conversations with States Members I have agreed to be nominated for the role of Minister for Treasury and Resources in the new Council of Ministers.
These are exceptional times we are living in. After several years of financial crisis the mood of change and uncertainty throughout the world is unlikely to improve in the short-term. In unpredictable markets we cannot control, it is more essential than ever that we continue to make the right financial decisions for Jersey.
The unprecedented global events have understandably led to a period when very tough decisions have had to be made. While this has been challenging for me, the debate has been appropriate and in the best interests of Jersey. The next three to five years are, unfortunately, going to be dominated by further uncertainty and further difficult decisions will need to be made by the new States Assembly.
Whilst a lot has been achieved in the Treasury, there is still a lot to do in delivering the Comprehensive Spending Review, further reform of taxation, preparing for more economic stimulus and protecting our reserves. Additionally, we have many serious financial issues that need addressing, including the generation of jobs and funding reform in Education, Health, Social Services and Housing.
I believe that the experience I bring after twelve years in government and three years as Treasury and Resources Minister means that I have the right skills to continue in the role. I would welcome the opportunity to work with Senator Gorst and the new Council of Ministers in meeting the strategic challenges now facing Jersey

I know this is completely off topic but a few posts/months ago you said you would update or something along thos lines with regards the census. It is months later and still nobody, apart from the census people are wiser with regards how many people are living here.
Do you have any news on that, as in when the results will be published?
You know what really annoys me about the census results and collation is that I could have input all the information into a database on my own in the time it has taken to produce nothing. I wonder if the results are not too good and that the population is more than expected and that is possibly why it is taking so long. It is ridiculous how long it is taking.

+1
Funny thing about census is that when the figures come out , many people claim the numbers are wrong. Then, when it’s decided to save money and just do it every 10 years these same people are up in arms.
